W.E.H.S. 2019 Program

All the meetings are held the third Wednesday of the month from February to May and from September through November at 7:30 p.m. at Monkland Community Center, 4410 Westhill Avenue, Montreal. Meetings, held in English, are open to the public.


February 20:  Presenter - Lisa Mintz of Sauvon la falaise

Topic: Saint-Jacques Escarpment  (sauvonslafalaise.ca) 

Explore the Saint-Jacques Escarpment, a green space along an escarpment in NDG. The wooded area is 3 km long and is an eco-territory. Learn why this cliff should be saved for future generations.


March 20: Presenter - Tereska Gesing, CEO of Urban Seedling  

Topic: Heritage Tomatoes (www.urbanseedling.com)

Learn about the beauty, flavours and how-to’s of growing magnificent heritage tomatoes.


April 17: Presenter - Dan Cooper, Master Gardener & writer  

Topic: Gardening from a Hammock (https://gardeningfromahammock.com/)

Dan Cooper is the co-author of “Gardening from a Hammock,” a book on low-maintenance gardening featuring the gardens of, and advice from, 17 popular horticultural professionals.


May 15: Presenter - Cindy Dale Elliot of Sustainable Dawson

Topic: Peace Garden at Dawson College (espacpourlavie.ca)

The goal of the Peace Garden is to create a green space that is commemorative, symbolic of life, renewal and more. It is a place where biodiversity is celebrated as a living lab. Come learn about this Montreal treasure.


May 25 (Saturday): Annual Perennial Sale in front of Jean-Coutu, at 6624 Somerled Ave, corner of Walkley Ave. in NDG  9:30 a.m.- 11:00 a.m.

As usual, the annual W.E.H.S. perennial sale is a major highlight for members and friends of our Society.  Donations of perennials (by members or non-members) needed. Pick-up can be arranged. If plant donations can be bagged, labelled or potted - we are especially grateful.


Summer Activity June 26 2019: 8:30 am - 3 pm. Daytrip w/ Montreal West Horticultural Society. Visit to the Champ de Reves Nursery which includes an on-site Mosaic Culture Parc, Lavender Field and access to professional landscapers who can answer your horticultural questions. Departure/Return location: Montreal West Community Centre, 8 Westminster Ave. S., Montreal West, QC, H4X 1Y5. Location: Vaudreuil, Quebec. Cost for members: $45, non-members: $55. Boxed lunch available for an extra $8 or bring your own. The cost includes a visit to Champ de Reves with transport by deluxe motor coach. Following the visit, we will stop for a picnic lunch at the Vignoble Cote de Vaudreuil (option wine tasting for $5 or tour for $15). Please dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes. There are shelters, restrooms, picnic tables and seating.


September 18: Presenter - Bruno Stenson, Professional Lecturer & Historian

October 16: Presenter - Laura Roch, Horticulturalist at Roch Gardens

Topic: Putting Your Garden to Bed

Laura will share her tips on how to properly prepare your garden for its winter sleep to ensure a bloom-filled gardening season.


November 20: Presenter -A Professional Florist shows how to create floral arrangements

Topic: Floral Arrangements - Secrets of the Trade.
